Flu Shot....Or Not??

Let me just start by saying that my children and I have never had a flu shot for regular seasonal flu....So I guess my question would be, how important is it to you to make your children get the flu shot every year? Also, if you were in my shoes, would you still get the new h1n1 flu shot when available in october? It's questionable to me. I feel like this whole "swine flu" pandemic has been totally blown out of porportion and I don't know what to believe anymore. I'm still waiting on the kiddo's doctor to call me back with his answer to all of these questions, but I thought I would share and see what you guys thought. Thanks! :)

  1. I know your concern Beth, I to am wondering what is the best to do. New vaccine's scare me.....not sure what the outcome of them will be. I guess I'll ask my dr. for his opinion. As for the seasonal flu shots we get them every year but hey, they've been around for years and no damage has been done so far. I think they help to boots my immune system plus Hayden has asthma so it's a must for him. Pray about it, ask you doctor and you'll do the right thing.....

  2. Clayton is getting a normal flu shot Monday, but I have been on the fence about the swine flu shot. His pediatrician is all for it, but my aunt works in a doctors office that is split down the middle over whether or not to get it. Part of the doctors there are saying they don't trust it because it hasn't been tested like the regular flu shot has and they still aren't completely sure what the side effects might be. As of now, I don't think Clayton will be getting that one. I may be taking a risk there, but the way I see it is that I may be taking a bigger one by making him get it in the first place.

  3. I am the queen of paranoia and germ-phobia! haha! I have gotten Ella the pediatric flu shot the last 2 years, and she's never had any sort of bad reaction or problem with it. I took her this week to get it again, and they had run out. I'm not too stressed if I don't get it for her, though. The H1N1 is a different ballgame... there are already several kids around us that have gotten swine flu. They all get it, though, go to the doctor, and are fine-- just like with seasonal flu. I obviously don't want Ella to catch it, but I am not comfortable with a new vaccine. I am 99% sure I will not be giving it to her.
For Chandler and Maddie, I might consider getting them the regular flu shot, just because they're in daycare/preschool, and you know there are going to be parents who send their sick kids there! As for myself, I got the flu shot once a few years ago and had a horrible reaction to it. I don't get it anymore.

  4. I work in a dialysis unit, and we are strongly encouraging our patients and staff to get this and we will be offering it to them... but as for my kids I am not so sure of the swine one...I am going to do the regular one for them, and will prob get the swine one myself but will probably pass on my kids getting it... our docs have told us that the flu and swine one are also only effective for three months...

  5. HI! Just wanted to drop by and say thank you for visiting my blog and signing up for the hairbow giveaway!

I noticed you're from Alabama! So is my hubby. We are die-hard Bama fans and get to attend 2-3 games a year (we live in Louisiana). We're headed that way in a few weeks and I can't wait! Love me some Sweet Home Alabama!!
